Welcome to the Sociable Sams Website!
My name is Christen Smith & I am the current “President” of the Sociable Sams. My husband Jon & I have been Chapter members in the Sociable Sams since 2017. The rest of the Officers in our camping Chapter are as follows, “Vice President”, Bob Tuttle & his wife Mary, have been in the Sociable Sam since 2012, our “Wagon Master”, Royce (Rusty) Greenwood & his wife Sharon “Treasurer”, have been Sociable Sam members since 2013 & last but not least, our “Secretary” Nancy Vallee & her husband Steve, have been Sociable Sam members since 1992.
Here is a brief history of the Sociable Sams. The Sociable Sams were originally chartered as a RI Chapter under the guidance of the “Good Sam Organization” on November 4, 1988 in Woonsocket, RI. In 2022, the “Good Sam Organization” decided to disband all the State Chapters from their organization. Since then, we have become an independent Chapter from the state of Rhode Island.
Since the city of Woonsocket borders on the Massachusetts state line, the members of the Chapter are from both Rhode Island & Massachusetts. Our Chapter SOP states that we can have up to 30 families, which means that we still have room for other families to join. I’m proud to say that our Chapter members are kind, friendly & are always there to lend a helping hand to anyone.
Our official camping schedule starts at the beginning of May & ends at the end of September. Once we start camping, we usually go out every other weekend throughout the summer. Our camping schedule consists of campgrounds in the states of Rhode Island, Connecticut, & Massachusetts. By looking at our campout schedule, you pick & choose what campouts you would like to attend. Our “Wagon Master”, Rusty Greenwood books all of our Chapter campouts for the members for the season.
If you choose to participate, we have fun activities throughout the weekend at all our campouts. Some of the weekend activities consist of playing Cards, Bocce, Ladders, & Chicken Foot (Dominoes Game). Also, during the camping season, we have Pot Luck Meals (some themed) on occasion, a Pizza Party, & a couple of Ice Cream Socials. We also do some fund raising for local Charities & Organizations – “Hasbro Children’s Hospital” & “Friends of Scusset” to name a few.
I hope that this little bit of information & this website gives you some insight of what the Sociable Sams are all about.
